Hydro One and supervisor face $262,000 in fines for workplace injury

Hydro One is facing a $250,000 fine after one of its employees was critically injured on a jobsite near Wingham nearly two years ago.

A Goderich court heard that on September 25, 2022, a hydro line worker suffered serious injuries after a copper wire they were holding made contact with a live powerline.

It happened during work to install copper leads on a powerline along Howick-Turnberry Road near Wingham.

Hydro One pleaded guilty for failing to ensure the work was completed safely, and within regulation. A Hydro One supervisor also pleaded guilty for his role in the tragedy, and was assigned a $12,000 fine.
