Driver who allegedly ran through red light, caused crash charged by London police

London police have filed charges following a dramatic high-speed crash on Adelaide Street last month.

A London man is facing charges after allegedly driving nearly triple the posted speed limit and running a red light before crashing into another vehicle in the city’s east end late last month.

According to a news release from the London Police Service, at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Nov. 26, 2025, a suspect male was driving a 2021 Tesla eastbound on Huron Street approaching Adelaide Street North.

The suspect approached the intersection where another vehicle was stopped at a red light in their direction. He then proceeded to move into the left turn lane before turning right, without making any attempt to stop at the red light.

Police say the suspect accelerated to speeds of approximately 130 km/hr in a posted 50 km/hr zone while passing other vehicles travelling southbound on Adelaide Street.

Another driver operating a pickup truck was driving northbound on Adelaide Street North when the suspect drove his vehicle into oncoming traffic and crashed into the pickup.

Police say the entire incident was captured on video surveillance and dashcam footage.

Emergency crews responded to the collision and both drivers were transported to hospital by paramedics.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries, while the suspect driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation was reassigned to the London Police Service Road Safety Section.

As a result, a 36-year-old man from London has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement:

• Dangerous operation of a conveyance
• Race a motor vehicle
• Red light – fail to stop

The accused attended London court on Wednesday in relation to the charges. He is scheduled re-appear on Jan. 27, 2026.

“The London Police Service acknowledges community concerns regarding the intersection involved in the recent collision. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we urge all motorists to exercise caution,” police said in a statement. “Members of the Road Safety Section remind drivers to reduce speed, remain attentive, and comply with all traffic laws to help prevent collisions and ensure the safety of everyone on our roads.”
