Downtown London’s Business Improvement Area (BIA) was recognized on the provincial stage for marketing, special events, advocacy and governance, and communications.
At the annual Ontario Business Improvement Association’s (OBIAA) awards gala on Monday, London brought home one award of excellence, and three awards of merit recognizing various programs and initiatives meant to stimulate interest in businesses in the district.
“It was a night of recognition for the incredible dedication and hard work of Downtown London’s staff,” said Board Chair of Downtown London Kristin Nielsen.
Awards included:
- Award of Excellence - Marketing, Downtown London Trails
- the initiative invited visitors to explore downtown through digital passports
- Award of Merit - Special Events, Downtown for the Holidays, 2023
- A seasonal campaign offering festive lights, events and free activities
- Award of Merit - Advocacy and Governance, Health and Homelessness Funding
- A one time grant of $1.16 million from the City of London was utilized to address health and homelessness challenges, expanding essential services and supporting businesses impacted by homelessness and social challenges
- Award of Merit - Communications, Monthly Event Calendars
- The program offers a guide to events in Downtown London in print and digital formats
“These events and initiatives have made a significant economic and social impact, bringing vibrancy to the downtown,” said Nielsen. “From celebrating the holidays with the community to offering support to businesses facing challenges, these awards reflect the commitment to innovation and collaboration that makes our downtown so special.”
