Temperatures set to resume seasonal norms, snow squall warnings in effect

Snow squalls continue in midwestern Ontario, but those temperatures are set to rebound. CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has the details.

The worst of it is over. While still feeling frigid Thursday, with a windchill making it feel like minus 20, the cold weather is improving. However, more snow is on the way.

“Cold arctic air once again continues to flood the Great Lakes,” said CTV Meteorologist Julie Atchison, “We’ve had a clipper come through in the winds have shifted now to the northwest. That will change the direction of some of these snow squalls overnight.”

Atchison warns that some areas could pick up about 15 cm of snow.

“Expect flurries, blowing snow, snow squall warnings and travel advisories in effect stretching from Huron County all the way to the Bruce Peninsula,” warned Atchison. “[There’ll be] rough road conditions heading into your Friday morning.”

A breezy, snowy, and chilly Thursday on the docket, but come Saturday, we warm up to a “balmy” minus 4 degrees. “The weekend looks good,” said Atchison. “We have some flurries in the forecast, but temperatures are set to climb between -3 and -5 [degrees].”

Alerts and warnings

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Goderich, Bluewater and southern Huron County, as well as Hanover, Dundalk and southern Grey County. A snow squall warning is in effect for Wingham, Blyth, northern Huron County, Saugeen Shores, Kincardine and southern Bruce, as well as Bruce County. Lake enhanced snow today is expected to transition into strong localized snow squalls this evening - the northern part of the region may see conditions improve later tonight.Travelers are advised to avoid or postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Friday: Increasing cloudiness. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 near noon. High minus 7. Wind chill minus 20 in the morning and minus 14 in the afternoon.

Saturday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 4.

Sunday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 4.

Monday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 3.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of flurries. High minus 2.
