Jury selection began Monday for the two people accused of killing OPP Const. Grzegorz “Greg” Pierzchala.
The 28-year-old was shot in the line of duty on Dec. 27, 2022.
Pierzchala had been called to Indian Line and Concession 14, near Hagersville, Ont. for a report of a car in a ditch. As he approached the vehicle, the officer was shot.
Randall McKenzie and Brandi Stewart-Sperry were charged with first-degree murder.
At the time of Pierzchala’s death, McKenzie was out on bail for an unrelated matter. The 25-year-old had been initially denied bail but was released after a review. An arrest warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to show up for his August 2022 court date.
McKenzie’s and Stewart-Sperry’s trial is expected to last six weeks.
