It’s a new era for Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener.
The Ministry of Health has approved the merger between the two, along with a new name – the Waterloo Regional Health Network or WRHN (pronounced “wren”) – as well as a new logo.

“This merger represents a continued commitment to enhancing the healthcare experience through combined resources, expertise and continued work towards including the new state-of-the-art hospital at the University of Waterloo’s North Campus,” WRHN’s press release explained.

The change took effect on April 1.
Each location will also go by a different name. Grand River Hospital, on King Street West, will now be referred to as WRHN @ Midtown, while the Freeport Campus will be called WRHN @ Chicopee. St. Mary’s Hospital will go by WRHN @ Queen’s Boulevard.

The services and care offered at each site will not change.
The hospitals first announced the plan to merge in April 2024.
