Are we in the middle of flu season? How bad is RSV this year?

As the country is in the midst of peak respiratory disease season, the Canadian respiratory virus surveillance report tracks how prevalent certain viruses are each week and how the trends are changing week to week.

The latest data, which covers the week ending Jan. 18, 2025, shows RSV and COVID-19 infections continuing to drop across Canada.

The influenza test positivity rate, meanwhile, continues to rise and was at 13.6% as of the week ending Jan. 18, 2025. That’s up from 10.4% at the end of December, and significantly up from 3.2% on Dec. 7.

Virus spread is measured by looking at the percentage of tests for each virus that come back positive.
