Josh Classen’s forecast: Warm weather sticks around through to March

The warmer temperatures are sticking around into March.

A few weeks ago, we said that once the warmer air moved in, it would stick around for a while.

We’re now six days into the warmer weather and there still isn’t any sign of cold air returning.

Temperatures will continue to top out in the 6- to 11-degree range through the end of this week and on into the coming weekend.

It’s a tale of two completely different seasons all wrapped into one month.

The average high for the first 19 days of February was -16 C.

But, the average high for the FINAL nine days of February 2025 is forecast to be 8 C.

What’s that old saying about Edmonton temperatures? It’s not normal to be “normal.”

The average (or “normal”) high for February in Edmonton is around -4 C. We’ve only had two days this month that have been within five degrees of the average high.

It’s been either well below or well above.

AND...for the rest of February, we’ll continue with the latter.

No significant precipitation in the forecast for the Edmonton area or surrounding regions in the coming days.

There’s an Upper Ridge moving in from the west that’ll help keep the warm air in place AND re-route all the snow-bearing systems up through northern Alberta.

NE Alberta gets some snow tonight and again Wednesday night (several centimetres of accumulation possible, especially around and north of Fort McMurray).

Looking LONG Range - there’s a SLIGHT cooldown shaping up for next week.

But, it certainly won’t get COLD. Daytime highs will remain above average...somewhere in the 1- to 5-degree range.
