Josh Classen’s forecast: ‘Milder’ air rolls back in

The coldest days are behind us and temperatures (as expected) started to climb overnight last night.

We’ll end up around -10 C for a high this afternoon, which is still a handful of degrees below the seasonal average.

But, it’s the warmest temperature the city’s had since Saturday.

It may also be the warmest we get over the next five to 10 days.

We’re out of the deep freeze, but there’s still no sign of temperatures returning to the 0 to -5 C range before the 21st of February.

Instead, we’ll have daytime highs hovering between -11 and -16 C from this Friday (Feb. 7) right through to next Friday (Feb. 14) and probably the following week as well.

Morning temperatures will be in the -20 to -25 C range through that stretch.

As for precipitation, we have some flurries in the Edmonton region this morning. That’s not going to amount to much and should move out by mid-to-late morning.

No significant snowfall expected through the weekend, although some modeling hints at a few flurries possible for Sunday morning.

I think the next-best chance for some accumulating snow (more than a just a dusting) comes middle of next week.
