After popular demand, Sea Change Brewing Co. is bringing back its limited edition beer Joey Moss ‘Man Crush’ Mandarin Ale after raising thousands of dollars for a local charity.
After last year’s release, the beer raised $27,206.58 - money that will be donated to Winnifred Stewart.
Winnifred Stewart helps adults with intellectual disabilities to help amplify their voices by finding employment and offering home services. The charity has a memorial fund in Moss’ honour, which was created after he died in 2020.
“By supporting the Joey Moss Memorial Fund, the fundraising efforts will open the door for employment opportunities for people with diverse abilities and foster connection and connection, just like Joey did,” Winnifred Stewart CEO Emily Ruttan said in a news release on Monday.
The beer was first launched April 2024 as a collaboration with Winnifred Stewart. It features a custom label of an illustration of Moss passionately singing the national anthem while wearing an Oilers jersey.
Moss was born with Down syndrome and spent more than three decades as a dressing room attendant for the Oilers and the Edmonton Elks.
Sea Change Brewing Co. says the 2024 Stanley Cup playoff run added more emotional weight to Moss’ legacy.
The mandarin ale is described as “bursting with citrus and subtle malt sweetness.”
“It’s a juice bomb that tastes like a mimosa without the champagne, light, crisp and made for community connection,” the news release said.
The Joey Moss ‘Man Crush’ beer will return April 11 at Sea Change taprooms and select retailers throughout the Edmonton area.
The donation will be presented on April 4.
