Firefighters were called to the Superstore on Kingsway on Monday because of a fire.
Crews arrived on scene at 12:53 p.m., Edmonton Fire Rescue Services said.
Customers had already evacuated the store and heavy smoke was coming from the building.
The fire was brought under control at 1:07 p.m.
One person was taken to hospital by EMS.
Investigators are trying to determine the fire’s cause.
An unnamed spokesperson for Loblaws says it’s unclear when the store will reopen.
“We’re working with the local authorities to understand the scope of the damage and are supporting our store colleagues during this time,” the spokesperson said in an email to CTV News Edmonton.
“Our goal is to reopen as soon as it’s safe to do so, but at this point we can’t confirm a specific date.”
