EPSB trustee resigns due to ‘current political environment’

An Edmonton Public School Board trustee has resigned.

Ward C’s Marcia Hole announced her resignation on X, saying, “I am no longer able to serve the public in alignment with these commitments in the current political environment, and I can no longer remain silent.”

“I stand with (support staff), and the students and families they serve, as they fight the provincial government for their right to earn a living wage which is a crucial factor in school boards' ability to attract and retain support staff,” Hole wrote.

EPSB support workers have been on strike since the middle of January as their union negotiates with the school division and provincial government for better wages.

Board chair Julie Kusiek thanked Hole for the three years she served as trustee.

Last week, Edmonton Public Schools superintendent Darrel Robertson announced his retirement.
