Edmonton weather: Temperatures near average plus some scattered showers for the long weekend

According to CTV Edmonton's Cory Edel's forecast, the long weekend will be decently sunny.

A touch of frost across the province this morning.

Most areas stayed above -2 C, but there were a few spots that dipped to -3 or -4 C. That includes Fort McMurray, the weather station just north of St Albert and the EIA weather station.

We’ll see temperatures start to climb fairly quickly this morning and we’ll get to 16 or 17 C for a high this afternoon under partly cloudy skies.

No further risk of frost in the coming days as morning lows won’t even dip below 5 C, let alone 0 C.

The long weekend weather picture is coming into focus a bit more.

I’ve kept the slight chance of a late-day shower in the forecast for all three days.

But...it really looks like the BEST CHANCE for Edmonton to see some precipitation will be Saturday night into the early-morning hours of Sunday.

Otherwise, just a mix of sun and cloud for the long weekend and highs in the 16 to 20 C range (right on par with the seasonal average).

Elsewhere around the province, it’ll be a wetter weekend, particularly in western and southern Alberta. That part of the province has a good chance of precipitation each day.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop from the Peace Country south to around Calgary later today and we might see some of that precipitation push into the Red Deer area this evening.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms is on tap for Saturday afternoon in those same areas.

Then...some heavier and steady rain moves into southern Alberta for Sunday afternoon and night.

Western and northwestern Alberta get scattered showers/thunderstorms Sunday afternoon.

A trough of low pressure brings another round of showers to northwestern Alberta on Monday and some of that may spill into the Edmonton region Monday evening.
