Edmonton weather: Another warming trend begins

It's warming up with nice weather for Friday and Saturday.

The long-range forecast has some snow and a return to sub-zero daytime highs. BUT...in the short-term...temperatures are climbing again.

After three days with highs of 3 C Monday, 5 C Tuesday and 5 C Wednesday...we’re up around 7 C this afternoon.

Highs near 10 C Friday/Saturday in Edmonton with sunny skies to go along with those warm temperatures.

The weather pattern starts to change just after time change. Daylight saving time starts early Sunday morning (clocks go ahead on hour).

We’ll see some increasing cloud through Sunday, with temperatures still on the warm side. BUT...a chance of some showers turning to wet snow later in the day.

THEN...a high near zero with a good chance of snow Monday. There’s still some uncertainty with snow amounts. But, there IS a chance of some accumulation.

An area of low pressure will slide across southern Alberta, with a snow zone on the northern edge. It looks very likely that parts of central/north-central Alberta will pick up 5+ cm of snow (possibly closer to 10cm for a few spots).

Whether that heavier snow is over the Edmonton area or further south remains to be seen. But, stay tuned...we could be in for a good ol' March snowstorm.

Bottom line: Enjoy the sunny and warm weather over the next few days because it’s set to get snowy and a lot cooler next week.

There’s that chance of snow Monday AND a chance of some snow mid-week. Plus...daytime highs will drop into the -2 to -5 range starting mid-week.

Those sub-zero highs will probably stick around for about five to seven days (until about March 19).
