‘Conditions are perfect’: Ski hills up and running with sustained snowfall

Snow Valley Ski Club has opened its hills for the season, and outside the city, Marmot Basin isn't far behind. CTV News Edmonton's Marek Tkach has the story.

With the snowfall here to stay, ski resorts in Edmonton and beyond are basking in their snowy hills as they open fully for the season.

“Really robust offering to kick off the season,” said Jason Paterson, the president of Marmot Basin in Jasper.

“This year we’re seeing a lot more snow up front, which is great. We’re seeing great snow-making temperatures as well that are really helping us out … we’re ahead of the game, if you want to compare the last two seasons.”

In the city, staff at Snow Valley opened their doors for the season on Friday and say Edmonton’s three to six centimetres of snow within the last 24 hours was just what the hills needed.

“Conditions are perfect … We’ve got everything up to snuff, and we’re good to go,” said marketing manager Tim Dea.

He noted that full snow production was delayed this year as it usually starts in October.

“Weather dictates when we want to make snow. This year is super late … we were able to pretty much make it all last weekend. And then it was a matter of pushing it all to the right places,” he added.
