WestJet says it is cancelling flights this summer from Calgary to LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

The Calgary-based airline announced the change this week after it “observed a shift in bookings from the U.S.”

In a statement, it said Canadians are looking to Mexico, the Caribbean and transatlantic destinations.

WestJet said it’s also suspended planned service this summer between Edmonton and the Orlando International Airport.

“It is common across the aviation industry to adjust schedules to service guest demand,” the company said Tuesday.

“As a proudly Canadian airline, WestJet is committed to ensuring air travel remains accessible, affordable and safe for all Canadians, as we continue to fly where our guests want to go.”

All impacted guests with tickets from Calgary to LaGuardia have been notified of the change and will be rebooked on flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
