Southern Alberta is no stranger to spring snow.
Lethbridge and much of the surrounding region have been hit with several centimetres of snow over the past week.
But it appears that snow will soon be on its way out.

“It’s pretty far-fetched to really call just at the beginning of April the last snowfall, for any place in Alberta. But that being said, the next couple of weeks actually look pretty warm, quite above normal. So it’s the last snowfall for the next couple of weeks,” said Environment and Climate Change Canada warning preparedness meteorologist Alysa Pederson.
The end of the spring snow also means ski season will soon come to a close.
Castle Mountain will end its season on Sunday despite the recent snow.
Staff believe guests will have the perfect conditions for their last runs of the season.
“We’re loving it, and it’s a great way to end it. We often say this time of year, if we can’t have snow, we’d like to have warm, and it turns out this weekend we’re going to get both,” said Castle Mountain sales and marketing manager Cole Fawcett.
As ski hills start to close, gardening centres are starting to get busy.
Many gardeners have been out picking up supplies for their spring planting.
The latest cold snap hasn’t seemed to dull any enthusiasm.
Gardening experts don’t think the cold should have any impact come planting time.

“Lots of people are starting out with starting seeds indoors, so that’s been a big thing. Really picks up at the beginning of April. This is a great time to start peppers and tomatoes inside,” said Green Haven Garden Centre co-owner Karen Barby.
While southern Alberta won’t see any snow over the next few weeks, there’s still a chance there could be more on its way later this spring.
But forecasters are also predicting Lethbridge will likely see a warmer and drier spring than average.
“At this point, we’re looking at a spring forecast maybe a little bit drier than normal across parts of Alberta or southern Alberta, and that’s kind of the trend that we’re seeing in the long-range guidance right now,” Pederson said.
