Cochrane RCMP say a 32-year-old Calgary man is facing multiple charges in connection with a revinning and fraud scheme that led to the theft of several vehicles.

Officials say their investigation, which began in January, determined the vehicles had been given fake vehicle information numbers (VIN) and phony registration.

Police later determined that the operation spanned into Saskatchewan as well.

With the assistance of Wynyard RCMP and the Saskatoon Police Service authorities recovered a Ford Expedition and a Lexus RX350.

They also arrested a suspect.

This month, Cochrane RCMP recovered a Ford F-150 and executed a search warrant on a Calgary home, seizing another vehicle, a re-vinned Dodge Ram.

All four of the vehicles are worth more than $200,000.

Police say the male is charged with fraud over $5,000, altering a VIN, uttering forged documents, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused is expected in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on April 28.
