Quebec man arrested for drug, human trafficking offences in Calgary

A 22-year-old man who recently moved to Calgary after serving a prison sentence in Quebec has been arrested for alleged drug and human trafficking offences.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s (ALERT) human trafficking unit says Xavier Herbert entered in the sex and drug trade in Calgary after serving time in his home province for human trafficking offences dating back to 2021.

Police say two of Herbert’s Calgary victims were identified and are being provided supports.

Meanwhile, the accused’s home in the Beltline neighbourhood was searched by police, where authorities found quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine and a replica handgun.

Herbert is charged with:

• material benefit from sexual services;
• procuring sexual services;
• advertising of sexual services;
• drug trafficking;
• possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking; and
• possession of proceeds of crime.

An 18-year-old male associate of Herbert’s was also arrested at the home.

He faces drug and weapons charges.

Herbert is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 10.
