Michael Adenyi’s alleged internet search history was examined in detail on Day 8 of his first-degree murder trial for the random killing of a Calgary woman, revealing some concerning content.

Adenyi is accused of stabbing Vanessa Ladouceur eight times while she walked to a gym where she worked along 10th Avenue S.E., in the early morning of March 18, 2022.

A member of the Calgary Police Service’s digital forensics team testified Wednesday to the internet search history and activities on a Samsung phone, which the Crown alleges belong to the accused.

Const. Havens went through several searches made on the device the week leading up to the attack:

  • “How much blood loss can a person handle?”;
  • “How strong is a human skull?”;
  • “Human skull baseball bat”; and
  • There were also searches on “How to contact a demon.”

The day before the attack, there were several searches for gun stores in downtown Calgary and Airdrie.

There were also several searches into where celebrities like Jim Carrey, Ryan Reynolds and his kids lived.

The Hollywood actors were also listed in a notebook found in a backpack the accused was caught on CCTV video putting into an alley garbage shortly after Ladouceur was attacked.

There was also a search on the Samsung device for “Airdrie local celebrities.”

Adenyi lived in Airdrie at the time.

Havens also testified to discovering two additional Google searches that did not have a time stamp but through his investigation he determined to have stemmed from 2021:

“How police officers find murdered bodies”; and

“How do police locate a kidnapped person?”

According to the Criminal Code, “Murder is first-degree murder when it is planned and deliberate.”

The Crown is arguing Adenyi is criminally responsible for Ladouceur’s death and has several witnesses left to testify in the trial before the defence will present its case.

Ladouceur’s family, including her mother, have been in the gallery throughout the trial.

Erika Ladouceur has described the young woman as intelligent, kind, spiritual and an avid reader.

Several members of the public have also been attending the trial.

The trial is slated to run until April 25.
