Man charged in fatal Stoney Trail hit-and-run

A 25-year-old man has been charged after a hit-and-run on Stoney Trail on Tuesday night that left a woman dead.

A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run on Stoney Trail that left a woman dead.

Police responded to the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail N.W. approaching the bridge deck of Nose Hill Drive around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

A white Toyota Corolla, driven by a woman in her 50s, was travelling south when it was hit by an unknown vehicle that was believed to be a semi-truck with a trailer. The unknown vehicle did not remain at the scene.

Two people travelling in a road maintenance truck were the first on the scene and provided medical aid to the woman.

Shortly after, a black Ram truck, driven by a 21-year-old man with a 21-year-old woman passenger, hit a barrier in the median and collided with the woman. The truck then hit the road maintenance truck.

The woman, 57, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead when she arrived.

The other drivers and passengers at the scene were not injured in the collision.

Through their investigation, police were able to find a semi-truck in Rocky View County, which was identified as the vehicle that left the scene of the collision.

As a result, Gaganpreet Singh, 25, was charged with hit-and-run and hit-and-run causing death.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage of the incident to call the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
