The Lethbridge Hurricanes have home-ice advantage in their first-round WHL playoff series against the Brandon Wheat Kings and it showed on Friday night.
The Hurricanes jumped out to a one-game advantage in their matchup with the Wheat Kings, riding out a 6-3 opening game victory.
The Hurricanes seized the momentum in the early going, getting first-period goals from Leo Braillard and Vojtech Port. After Brandon got one back from Nolan Flamand, Lethbridge got two more in the second from Shane Smith and Anthony Wilson to build a 4-1 lead.

Roger McQueen and Dylan Ronald made it a one-goal game but with 13 seconds left in the middle frame, Kooper Gizowski scored to restore a two-goal advantage for Lethbridge.
The third period was dominated by the Canes, who outshot Brandon 17-10 and added to their lead with Leo Braillard scoring his second goal of the night to make it 6-3 for the Hurricanes.
Lethbridge outshot Brandon 46-35 as they won their first playoff game in 2,189 days dating back March 31, 2019—almost six years to the day.
The two teams do it again in Game 2 Sunday night at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m.
