The Lethbridge Hurricanes took control of their first-round series against the Wheat Kings Tuesday night, defeating Brandon 3-1.

The victory gave Lethbridge a commanding 3-0 series lead in its best-of-seven opening round series against the Wheat Kings.

Carsen Adair scored around two minutes into the first to spring the Hurricanes to an early 1- 0 lead.

They padded that to a 2-0 lead on a goal by Leo Braillard.

In the second, Nolan Flamand scored a power play marker to make the score 2-1, but Jackson Unger turned back a number of scoring chances by Brandon to keep the score 2-1 after two.

In the third, Unger turned back 18 Wheat King shots, while Miguel Marques scored late to make the score 3-1 and the Hitmen were able to hang on for the win.

Brandon outshot Lethbridge 38-24 on the night.

It’s the first time the Hurricanes have led a series 3-0 since the first round of the 2018 WHL playoffs.

The game was played in Virden, Man., as the Wheat Kings weren’t able to host the game in Brandon due to the city’s annual spring fair being booked into their home arena.

Game 4 is set for Virden Wednesday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 pm. MT.
