The Calgary Flames announced the signing of forward Aydar Suniev on Wednesday.
Suniev, who’s from Kazan, Russia, played for the University of Massachusetts Amherst this season, scoring 20 goals and adding 18 assists in 35 games to finish second on the team.
Prior to joining UMass, Suniev played for the Penticton Vees, where he was part of a team that won back-to-back BCHL Championships in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
He led the BCHL in goals in the 2022-23 season, scoring 45 goals in 50 games.
He was selected in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft by Calgary.
Suniev signed a three-year entry-level contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $923,333.
He’s 6′2″, weighs 215 pounds and shoots left.
