Ramadan ended late last month, but Eid celebrations continue in Calgary.

About 40 Muslim families held a Eid al-Fitr party at a community hall in Cranston Sunday.

There were games for kids and everyone also took time out for prayer.

Then everyone gathered for a shared meal.

But before the celebration, organizers say everyone must make efforts to give back to the community.

“Before the prayer, we have to make (acts of) charity,” said Safdar Khan, an event organizer who is also with the Islamic Circle of North America.

“That’s a must,” he said. “Every person, not only the adults, but also the children...have to make a charity we call Fitr.”

Eid is traditionally celebrated at the end of a month of fasting during Ramadan.
