Dash-cam footage sought as police investigate pedestrian hit-and-run in Calgary’s southwest

Calgary police are turning to the public for help catching a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a pedestrian late last month.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2025, in the 500 block of 17 Avenue S.W.

According to police, a small, dark-coloured SUV was heading east on 17th at what is believed to have been a high rate of speed and struck a male pedestrian attempting to cross.

Police say in the aftermath, the vehicle turned north on 4 Street S.W.

The pedestrian suffered serious, long-term injuries because of the incident, police say, but is in stable condition.

Police note the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the incident.

Investigators already have some CCTV footage from the scene but are now asking for dash-cam footage from passersby, too.
