Calgary man charged with sexual assault of 3 teenage girls

A Calgary man is facing charges following reports of sexual assaults involving three girls over the past two years.

A Calgary man is facing charges after allegedly making friends with multiple teenage girls and then sexually assaulting them.

One of the victims, who was 15 at the time, told police she was with friends at the Central Library in March of 2024 when they befriended by a stranger.

The teens agreed to leave with the man.

“All four individuals got into the man’s car and drove around downtown while the man offered the teens drugs,” police said in a news release.

The victim’s two friends eventually left the vehicle, leaving her alone with the man.

Police say the accused agreed to drive the victim home, but made an unexpected stop at a northwest parking lot where he touched her inappropriately.

The victim was dropped off at her home and reported the incident to police.

Investigators believe the same man is responsible for sexually assaulting two other teens.

One of the other victims came forward to police in the spring of 2024.

She reported two occasions where she met with a man downtown and spent time with him in hotel rooms where he sexually assaulted her while offering her drugs.

She was 13 at the time.

The third victim said she was assaulted by a man in February 2024 when she was 15 years old.

She said the man befriended her in downtown Calgary, took her to a nearby hotel room and sexually assaulted her while offering her drugs.

Abdulsatar Amad Luhar, 47, is charged with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference and one count of obtaining sexual services from a minor.

He is in police custody with a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 25.

“These types of incidents are very concerning for the community, and I want to commend the teens for coming forward to police to report the incidents that occurred,” said Staff Sgt. Darren Smith.

“The victims were all vulnerable youth,” he said. “He would befriend them, give them drugs and alcohol and cigarettes in return for, eventually, sexually favours – sexually assaulting them.”

Smith says he believe there may be other victims who have yet to come forward.

“Given the history of how he conducted himself … Most likely he has targeted other youth before.”

Reporting sexual assault

There is no statute of limitations on criminal sexual offences in Canada and anyone who has been a victim of a serious crime is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.
