The Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Olds Grizzlys announced new ownership on Wednesday, including a Calgary businessman and a former NHL player.

The team announced Moe Jamal as the new principal owner of the team with Calgary-born Jay Beagle in a supporting role.

Jamal is an entrepreneur who is involved with the Calgary hockey development community, working with the Calgary International Hockey Academy, which operates U15 to U18 teams in the CSSHL.

“I have a deep love for the game and a strong commitment to developing young athletes,” Jamal said in a news release.

“Owning an AJHL franchise allows me to support these players in reaching their highest potential.”

Beagle, who played nearly 650 NHL games over the course of 14 seasons, will support the ownership group in a minor capacity.

The new owners will take over from Friends of the Grizzlys, a group of former players and local business owners who saved the franchise in 2017.

“We are fortunate to integrate their infrastructure and player development experience to provide stability and growth within the community of Olds and look forward to their contributions to the success of our league,” said AJHL Commissioner Ryan Bartoshyk.

The team also announced part of its coaching staff for next season, including Tyson Soloski as head coach and Dylan Olsen and Mitch Visser as assistant coaches.
