The Calgary Canucks got off to a strong start in their AJHL South Division Finals, defeating the Drumheller Dragons 4-3 Friday night in front of 1,046 fans at Ken Bracko Arena in Calgary.
Jack Plandowski, Luc Trevors, and Rhett Melnyk scored in the first two periods to push the Canucks out to an early 3-1 lead.
In the third, Drumheller stormed back, getting goals from Bradley Gallo – his second of the night – and Kai Matthew to tie it up halfway through the period.
With a little under five minutes to play, Riley Bracko pumped one home for the Canucks to put them up a goal and they were able to hold on for a 4-3 win.
Drumheller outshot the Canucks 32-31, with Lukas Renaud getting the win for the Canucks. Matthew Kondro took the loss for the Dragons.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday night at Ken Bracko Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m.
