Calgary Canucks’ fourth line leading charge in playoffs so far

Published:

The Calgary Canucks open up the South Division final on Friday night at the Ken Bracko Arena. In the first round, they were led by an unlikely trio.

The Calgary Canucks proved just how deep they are in the opening round of the playoffs against the Camrose Kodiaks.

Their fourth line combined for 23 points as the Canucks defeated the Kodiaks in five games.

Leading the way was centre Luc Trevors, who scored five goals and added four assists.

Those nine points have him leading in the AJHL playoffs.

Trevors, who is from Langdon, says a lot of the credit has to go to his linemates.

“We built some chemistry over those five games,” said the 19-year-old.

“Shout-out to my linemates and then just kind of being in the right spot. None of those goals were pretty—just kind of in tight and finding a way to get them upstairs.”

The right mindset

Winger Alexey Trischuk, who is from Calgary, chipped in with two goals and five assists in round 1.

He says it was nice that the fourth line was able to contribute and take some of the pressure off the top lines.

“Our mindset was mostly just going and doing what we had to do in order to win,” said the 21-year-old.

“We never went in there expecting to score or get points like we have been. I think just being true to what we believe on the ice has helped us a lot, especially being the fourth line and not getting as much ice time as the other guys.

“Maximizing our time on the ice was our biggest focus.”

Rookie playing his best hockey

Rhys Jamieson is the third member of the fourth line.

He put up four goals and three assists in the opening round.

Last season, the Calgarian was playing for the AAA Buffaloes, so it took him a while to find his game.

Jamieson believes he’s playing his best hockey at just the right time.

“I think after the whole season here, I’ve just really improved my game and I think I’m playing my best game right now and I’m just going to try to keep that moving forward in round 2,” said the 17-year-old.

Dragons up next

The Canucks will face the Drumheller Dragons in the South Division final.

The Dragons took down the Canmore Eagles in seven games to move on.

Head coach and general manager Brad Moran knows it’s going to be a tough matchup.

“A very deep lineup that can be very physical, especially in their own rink—they play very hard at home,” said Moran.

“I think we had some success early on against them but in the later half, as things change, they’ve played us hard, too.”

The first two games of the series will be played in Calgary on Friday and Saturday.
