Members of the Airdrie RCMP are celebrating a quick-thinking and level-headed child for her heroism.

Police say five-year-old Ellie Mae Lefebvre was at her Crossfield home with her dad when he started having a medical emergency.

Lefebvre managed to stay calm and activate the medic alarm the family has in its house.

When 911 operators contacted the home to check in, Lefebvre gave them the information they needed, and they quickly dispatched RCMP and EMS.

First responders were able to help the girl’s father.

On Friday, RCMP say Lefebvre was presented with a certificate for her bravery.

“This is a great reminder to parents to have that conversation with your children,” RCMP said in a news release.

“It is so important to teach children what to do in an emergency. Because Ellie knew what to do, her dad is still with them today.”
