Three Calgary residents have been charged in relation to a series of smash-and-grabs and break-and-enters that have been happening in the city since the start of 2025.

Early Wednesday morning, at around 2:45 a.m., police responded to reports of a break-in at a vape store in the 900 block of Heritage Drive S.E., where the offenders smashed the front door and then stole multiple items from inside.

The suspects fled the scene in a Honda Civic, which was located about 15 minutes later. Police took three suspects into custody.

Further investigation led police to connect the suspects to other commercial break-and-enters, where suspects smashed the front of the businesses to gain access to the inside.

That included a vape store break-in on Friday, Jan. 3, at 4:45 a.m. in the 4600 block of Bowness Road; a pharmacy break-in that took place on Sunday, Feb. 16, at around 3:40 a.m. in the 0 to 100 block of High Street S.E.; a Wednesday, March 12 break-in at a vape store that took place at around 5:30 a.m. on the 5300 block of 17 Avenue S.E.; and a break-in at a bar on Friday, March 13, at around 5 a.m. in the 1400 block of 52nd Street S.E.

Two suspects were also connected to a shoplifting that took place on Jan. 13, at a business in the 300 block of 36 Street N.E.

A 51-year-old Calgary man has been charged with five counts of break -and-enter, and one count of theft under $5,0000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and flight from a police officer. The man was remanded into custody. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Apr. 9.

A 31-year-old Calgary woman was charged with three counts of break-and-enter, and one count each of theft under 5,000 and possession of a controlled substance. She was released from custody. She’s scheduled to appear in court on May 7.

A 50-year-old Calgary woman was charged with one count of break-and-enter. She was also issued a summons under the Traffic Safety Act. She was released from custody. She’s scheduled to appear in court on May 9.

“In each one of these incidents, the suspects not only stole products from local Calgary businesses, but caused significant damage in doing so,” said Calgary police Staff Sgt. Jake Debolt, in a media release. “Our District 4 break-and-enter Team did outstanding work collecting key evidence and tying these individuals back to previous offences.”
