1 dead in police shooting in S.E. Calgary

A man is dead after being shot by police in a southeast Calgary trailer park, stemming from a domestic incident inside the home.

A person was shot and killed by a police officer near the southeast Calgary community of Red Carpet on Wednesday.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) was called to the 6200 block of 17 Avenue S.E. around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday for a domestic incident inside a home involving a “person in crisis.”

When police arrived, a man exited the home and ran toward officers, CPS said.

One officer shot their taser at the man, while another fired their gun.

The officers provided first aid, but the man was declared dead at the scene.

No officers or other members of the public were injured. One other person was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called to investigate.

With the investigation underway, police said no further details will be provided at this time.
