Two crashes in two nights lead to two impaired driving arrests

It has been a concerning 48 hours on Owen Sound roads in terms of impaired driving.

Police have had to respond to crashes in back-to-back overnights, both resulting in drivers getting arrested for impaired driving.

According to the Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS), officers responded to a two-car collision at around 10 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of 10th Street East.

No injuries were reported but police say both vehicles sustained significant damage.

The driver of one of the involved vehicles, a 64-year-old female driver from Orleans, Ontario, was arrested and charged with impaired operation.

She was taken back to the OSPS, where police say she provided breath samples that confirmed her blood alcohol concentration was over the legal limit.

Then, at around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, police say they responded to another crash in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East involving an SUV and a city snowplow.

Again, no injuries were reported, but the SUV sustained significant damage according to the OSPS.

Police say the SUV driver, a 43-year-old woman from Owen Sound, was unlicensed. She was subsequently arrested and charged with impaired operation.

She was transported back to OSPS, where police say the breath samples she provided indicated that her blood alcohol concentration was over the legal limit.

Both accused drivers were issued 90-day licence suspensions and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.

The drivers were released from custody and are scheduled for March court dates.
