Township roads close amid flooding risk

With more heavy rain in Sunday’s forecast for southern and central Ontario, police have closed several roads in Dufferin County roads that could be at risk for flooding.

In a social media post, Dufferin County OPP stated that they are actively monitoring flooding, and closed several roads throughout Grand Valley, Waldemar and other surrounding areas.

The road closures listed by Dufferin County OPP include:

- Water Street from Rainy Street to Melody Street.

- Emma Street from Water Street to Main Street.

- and William Street from Water Street to Emma Street.

Drivers are urged by police to avoid the closed roads for their safety, and to avoid driving around barricades.

Police add that higher water levels are expected and drivers are urged to not cross moving water.

Environment Canada’s special weather statement for up to 20 millimetres of rainfall and up to 80 kilometre per hour wind gusts remains in effect through Sunday for most of southern Ontario.
