Barrie area under special weather statement for strong winds, 90 km/h gusts possible

While most snow squall warnings and watches for the Simcoe Muskoka region have ended, they have been replaced by special weather statements for strong winds.

According to Environment Canada, Barrie, much of Simcoe County and York Region are expected to see strong southwesterly winds developing Monday afternoon. Winds gusts could reach 80 to 90 kilometres per hour.

The national weather agency states that objects may get tossed around, tree branches could break, and power outages are possible. The strong winds are expected to continue into Monday night.

The snow squall watches for Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Huntsville and other southern Muskoka areas remain in effect.
