Officer charges driver after witnessing them crash into fire hydrant

A driver is facing impaired charges after an officer reportedly saw them crash into a fire hydrant in Midland Friday afternoon.

According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, the officer was patrolling on King Street at around 1:30 p.m. when they witnessed the incident.

The officer then began investigating the driver for impaired driving and arrested them.

The 57-year-old Penetanguishene driver was charged with impaired operation and impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration above 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres.

The accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

They are scheduled for a court date later in the month.
