Meaford man accused of defrauding Owen Sound business out of $25K

Police arrested a Meaford man accused of defrauding an Owen Sound restaurant out of more than $25,000.

Local police say the accused stole a bank card and its pin associated with one of the restaurant’s accounts and made several cash withdrawals and purchases in Owen Sound and Meaford.

The matter was brought to the attention of authorities following one of the business' regular audits done by staff, which police say revealed the transactions and missing funds.

A 42-year-old man was charged on Thursday with fraud, and several other offences, including possession of property obtained by crime and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He is scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charges next month.
