Matt Mays 2005 album has finally achieved gold status.

It took two decades, but Canadian rocker Matt Mays has officially struck gold.

In a video posted to Instagram, Mays shared a special moment as he unboxed a long-awaited milestone: his first-ever gold record for Matt Mays & El Torpedo – an album originally released in 2005.

“A little emotional here,” said Mays. “This record went gold. It’s my first gold record. El Torpedo and I’s. It’s 20 years old, too.”

The album, which includes fan favourites like Cocaine Cowgirl and On the Hood, has become a staple of Canadian rock playlists over the years.

The musician who grew up in Nova Scotia, is known for his gritty rock sound and heartfelt lyrics.

“Just because a record takes 20 years to go gold doesn’t mean it’s not a gold record,” he said. “You can copy and paste that onto anything in life if you work hard on it.”

Mays’s fans quickly flooded the comments with congratulations, celebrating a record that many say shaped their youth and still holds strong today.

“Thanks to everybody involved,” Mays said. “It was a nice treat to get today. OK. I’m going to go take a bath with it or something.”
