For Mini Grimace, a Nova Scotia-based artist, music has been a transformative outlet for his personal challenges.

“I just take my depression, anxiety and everything that I went through, and I write it in music and hope to help somebody else who’s going through it,” Grimace said.

Growing up in a small community with few social interactions, Grimace often felt alone. His parents’ separation during his youth further contributed to his sense of isolation.

To cope, he turned to songwriting, allowing him to articulate his experiences and emotions through music.

His latest album, called “Before and After,” reflects this journey. Initially, his music delved into themes of depression and anxiety. Over time, he shifted towards more uplifting and inspirational content, aiming to convey a message of hope and resilience.

“I wanted to take my music on a more positive note and show more inspirational music and kind of get away from the depression a little bit,” he said.

Looking ahead, Grimace has several performances scheduled in the Maritimes, including shows in Dartmouth, N.S., and Truro, N.S. Through his music, he continues to connect with audiences, offering understanding to those facing similar struggles.
