Two Maritimers have collaborated on pop superstar Miley Cyrus’s new song.
Molly Rankin of Mabou, N.S., and Alec O’Hanley of Charlottetown, P.E.I. – members of the indie pop band Alvvays – are credited as co-writers and co-producers on Cyrus’s new single, “End of the World.”
The song was released Friday and will appear on Cyrus’s upcoming album, “Something Beautiful,” set to drop May 30.
Rankin, the daughter of the late John Morris Rankin of The Rankin Family, and O’Hanley have earned widespread acclaim as part of Alvvays. Their song “Belinda Says,” from the album “Blue Rev,” earned the group their first Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
In addition to joining pop star Halsey on tour this spring, Alvvays is set to play at the Halifax Music Fest on June 29 at the Garrison Grounds at Citadel Hill. They will be sharing the stage with headliners The Killers, along with Lights and Said The Whale.
The official video for “End of the World” is out now.
