P.E.I. unveils plans for new elementary school

The Prince Edward Island Government made an announcement Tuesday of design plans for a new elementary school in the Charlottetown area.

The new East Royalty Elementary School will be built next to L.M. Montgomery Elementary School in Charlottetown and will use the same design as the new Sherwood Elementary School.

The school is planned to welcome around 650 students living in the eastern region of Charlottetown up to Stanhope.

In the announcement, the P.E.I. government said the school will feature a “nature-centric interior design and architectural style.” The school also has daylight and acoustic controls, open concept classrooms, modern energy systems, and more outdoor space for activities.

Construction for the new school is set to begin later in the summer, and is expected to be completed by 2028.
