Published:

A man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and stabbed a man in what appears to be a random incident in Dartmouth, N.S., Friday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of an assault in the 200-250 block of Wyse Road around 4 p.m.

Police say a man was seen hitting a woman and knocking her to the ground before he fled the area on foot.

While officers were on scene, another man approached them and told them he had been stabbed when he confronted the suspect.

Both victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police don’t believe the suspect knew either of the victims.

Officers found and arrested the suspect a short time later.

The 35-year-old man, who has not been named, is facing the following charges:

  • aggravated assault
  • assault causing bodily harm
  • possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace

The man is due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
