MacKay Bridge in Halifax closing for the weekend

The MacKay bridge in Halifax closes over the weekend for maintenance.

Drivers in Halifax should be prepared for more traffic over the next couple of days as the MacKay Bridge closes for the weekend.

The MacKay Bridge, located towards the city’s north end, will be shutting down at 8 p.m. on Friday as the span undergoes “critical” maintenance work. The bridge is set to reopen at 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Halifax-bound traffic from Highway 111 will be pushed to Victoria Road. Both ramps on Princess Margaret Boulevard connecting to and from Highway 111 to the MacKay Bridge will be fully closed in both directions.

Halifax Harbour Bridges is advising motorists to plan for traffic delays and encouraging residents to plan ahead or consider alternate routes.

This is not the first time the bridge has been closed this year. The bridge also shut down for a weekend in July for maintenance, as well as in March while bridge tolls were being removed.

The Macdonald Bridge will remain open for the weekend.
