Maritime journalist John Soosaar has died at the age of 84.

Longtime journalist John Soosaar has passed away.

Soosaar spent decades in journalism in the Maritimes, including several years as the assignment editor at ATV (now known as CTV Atlantic) throughout the 1980s. He also worked at The Canadian Press and CBC, and was a documentary producer.

In 2010, Soosaar was named the honourary consul for the Republic of Estonia in Nova Scotia.

Soosaar died this week after a short illness. He was 84.
