Longtime Halifax councillor passes away

Longtime Halifax councillor Russell Walker passed away on Wednesday.

A councillor who represented the Fairview and Clayton Park area for nearly three decades passed away on Wednesday.

At the Nova Scotia Legislature, MLA Brad Johns announced that Russell Walker died after a long fight with cancer.

Walker was first elected in 1994, representing the Fairview-Clayton Park riding and later the Halifax-Bedford Basin West riding. He also served as deputy mayor in 2005 and 2006.

Walker decided not to reoffer in the 2020 election, ending his career in municipal politics.

Prior to joining council, Walker was a teacher.
