Man dies after Halifax shooting, police investigating as homicide

Halifax police are investigating a fatal shooting in the Fairview area.

One man has died and police are treating the incident as a homicide following a shooting in Halifax Thursday morning.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of an injured and unresponsive man on McFatridge Road in the community of Fairview around 6:20 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found an unconscious man on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to hospital where he died.

Police say they do not believe the shooting was a random act.

The victim’s identity will not be provided until the autopsy has been concluded by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, according to Halifax Regional Police.

Hospital lockdown

The Halifax Infirmary emergency department was also on lockdown Thursday morning, although it hasn’t been confirmed if the two incidents are related.

Nova Scotia Health says the lockdown was lifted as of 8:15 a.m.

“For the safety of staff and patients, we are unable to share any further details at this time,” reads an email from Nova Scotia Health.
