A row house in downtown Moncton, N.B., was badly damaged by fire Monday morning.
Platoon Chief Brad Calhoun of the Moncton Fire Department said they responded to a unit on fire on Lewis Street around 8:30 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered a working fire in one of the units in the row housing.
The occupants were able to get out of the home safely. No one was injured.
“There is some fire damage and some heavy smoke damage to the unit itself. The adjacent units did not sustain any significant damage,” said Calhoun.

Calhoun said firefighters rescued one cat and were able to return it to its owner.
It’s not known how many people were living inside the unit.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
