Five arrested in armed robbery at Saint John bar in January

Police have arrested five people following a three-month investigation into an armed robbery at a bar in Saint John, N.B., in January.

The Saint John Police Force responded to the lounge on Westmorland Road around 2:20 a.m. on Jan. 9.

Police said a man armed with a firearm entered the business and tried to get money from the cash register. When the man got into an altercation with another person inside the bar, police said the gun went off.

The suspect was seen leaving the area in a vehicle.

No serious injuries were reported.

A few days later, on Jan. 14, police released photos of a woman they said was a “person of interest” in the investigation.

Now, police say they have arrested two women and three men in connection with the robbery.

A 21-year-old woman has been charged with robbery and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle.

A 45-year-old man has been charged with robbery and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle.

A 50-year-old man has been charged with the following offences:

  • robbery
  • possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • discharging a firearm with intent to commit
  • disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence
  • assault with a weapon

A 31-year-old man has been charged with the following offences:

  • robbery
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle
  • disguise with intent to commit and indictable offence
  • assault with a weapon

“A 41-year-old female was arrested and will appear in court at late date regarding her involvement,” said police in a news release.

The RCMP assisted the Saint John Police Force in the investigation.
