Child dead, teenager injured after moped struck by vehicle: N.B. RCMP

A child has died and a teenager was seriously injured following a collision Friday night in Haut-Sheila, N.B.

RCMP said officers were called just before 7 p.m. to a collision involving a vehicle and a moped at the intersection of Route 370 and Edmond Road.

According to police, it’s believed the driver of the vehicle, which was travelling northbound on Route 370, struck the moped, which was also travelling northbound.

RCMP said the passenger on the moped, an eight-year-old boy from Saint-Pons, was rushed to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the moped, a 17-year-old boy also from Saint-Pons, was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The occupants of the vehicle were not physically injured.

Members of the Tracadie Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also attended the scene, along with an RCMP collision reconstructionist.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
